Experiential Learning

Throughout the course, students had 60-hour experiential learning activities and engaged in critical discussion on the role of heritage tourism in heritage preservation and urban development at Pokfulam.

Participation and evaluation of a heritage tour: 
Students participated in a walking tour in the Western District and critically evaluated how local history is represented in a heritage tour. The tour was guided by Walk In Hong Kong.

Field trips at Pokfulam Village: 

Students joined two field-trips at Pokfulam Village, to record their observations and include the findings to this guidebook. The tour was guided by Pokfulam Village Cultural Landscape Conservation Group and Cultural Sub-committee, University Hall Students’ Association, HKUSU. 

Interviews with community stakeholders and experts: 

Students interviewed residents, district councillors and experts to collect more information about history, culture and living experience at Pokfulam.

Practitioner sharing and training workshop sessions:

Paul Chan (co-founder and CEO of Walk In Hong Kong) and Piera Chen (coordinating author of Lonely Planet Hong Kong Camp; Macau) hosted guest talks on how local history and culture are represented through walking tours and travel guidebooks.

A free heritage tour at Pokfulam Village:

Students organized two free tours at Pokfulam to disseminate the outcomes of this project to the community.

 

Website and booklet production:

Students were divided in groups to design heritage tours at the five precincts of Pokfulam. Caritas Pokfulam Community 

Development Project, Roundtable Enterprise, Walk In Hong Kong and course instructor provided editorial support and reviewed the content.
